kevin moshayedi asked:

This is an age where pictures are taken to celebrate every single occasion. The camcorder comes in handy (also called the handy cam) to take pictures and record every single event that is precious in our lives. We can take continuous videos, still pictures or audio recordings. It is the best way to share these moments with all our near and dear ones. So, it becomes that we get the best battery for our camcorder, so that it works efficiently.

To buy the best battery for the camcorder, we need to know abut the different types of batteries that are available in the market today. The first types of batteries that were used were the nickel cadmium (NiCl) or the Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries. They were heavy and could not take pictures for a long period of time.

Nowadays the Lithium Ion (L-ion) batteries are used for the camcorder. They are lighter than the older batteries. They are more effective in taking pictures and can rake pictures for a longer period of time. They are also smaller in size and are not bulky. So the Lithium ion batteries would be the best buy for a camcorder.

They have many advantages and are hence preferred over the other two varieties of batteries. They have thrice as much voltage as the former two battery types. They are troubled by the ‘memory effect’. They have also not to be fully discharged and then charged while recharging. All these are the plus points of the lithium ion batteries. The batteries can be partially charged. This could not be done with the earlier batteries. Some of the earlier batteries had long run times but they had limited run cycles. Other batteries were durable but were very heavy. So the lithium ion batteries which are used now are the best since they are durable but weigh less. They have also a high energy density. These batteries do not have the problem of the user having to go through the scheduled ‘cycles’ of charges to prolong the life of the batteries.

It is necessary that a person using the camcorder be able to shoot pictures for at least eight to nine hours at a time, to cover a memorable occasion. This is possible with the lithium batteries. Since the batteries are light it is easy to carry the portable camcorder. The only thing one has to be careful about is in charging the batteries. The manufacturer’s instructions have to be strictly followed for charging the batteries.

Although the lithium batteries are more expensive than the earlier batteries used in the camcorder, they are definitely the best in terms of quality, durability, efficiency and are longer lasting.

Some of the companies that manufacture these lithium ion camcorder batteries are: Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Hitachi, Sharp, Duracell etc. All these brands are popular in the market. It is best to shop around and buy the best battery that suits your camcorder. Since, information for these batteries is available online, it is good to compare the products, check the details, see whether it suits your camcorder and also compare the prices of the products. This will enable a customer to get an idea of the products available in the market. Batteries can be ordered and bought online.

Bobby George asked:

A new battery comes in a discharged condition and must be charged before use (refer to the devices manual for charging instructions). Upon initial use (or after a prolonged storage period) the battery may require three to four charge/discharge cycles before achieving maximum capacity.

When charging the battery for the first time the device may indicate that charging is complete after just 10 or 15 minutes. This is a normal phenomenon with rechargeable batteries. Remove the battery from the device, reinsert it and repeat the charging procedure.

It is important to condition (fully discharge and then fully charge) the battery every two to three weeks. Failure to do so may significantly shorten the battery’s life (this does not apply to Li-Ion batteries, which do not require conditioning). To discharge, simply run the device under the battery’s power until it shuts down or until you get a low battery warning. Then recharge the battery as instructed in the user’s manual.

If the battery will not be in use for a month or longer, it is recommended that it be removed from the device and stored in a cool, dry, clean place. This keeps the battery from losing its runtime and from possibly damaging the battery or device.

It is normal for a battery to become warm to the touch during charging and discharging. Only extreme heat should be regarded as potentially dangerous and examined by a battery professional.

A charged battery will eventually lose its charge if unused. It may therefore be necessary to recharge the battery after a storage period. A good rule of thumb is to charge the battery once every 2-3 weeks to prevent premature wear-down.

The milliamp-hour (mAH) rating of the Hi-Capacity battery will often be higher than the one on the original battery. A higher mAH rating is indicative of a longer lasting (higher capacity) battery and will not cause any incompatibilities. A Hi-Capacity battery will, in most cases, outperform the original by 30% to 50%.

Actual battery run-time depends upon the power demands made by the equipment. In the case of notebook computers, screen brightness, the use of the CPU, the hard drive, and other peripherals results in an additional drain upon the battery, effectively reducing the battery’s run-time. The total run-time of the battery is also heavily dependent upon the design of the equipment. To ensure maximum performance of the battery, optimize the computer’s power management features. Refer to the computer manual for further instructions.

Battery Don’ts:

Do not short-circuit. A short-circuit may cause severe damage to the battery and personal injury as well.

Do not drop, hit or otherwise abuse the battery as this may result in the exposure of the cell contents, which are corrosive.

Do not expose the battery to moisture or rain.

Keep battery away from fire or other sources of extreme heat. Do not incinerate. Exposure of battery to extreme heat may result in an explosion.

Sigh Co asked:

I have a corded phone which has a digital display. The compartment which holds the batteries is filled with what I assume is exploded battery material. What’s the best way to clean it out without frying the phone or burning my fingers off?

Thanks :)

Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

Batteries are designed to provide you with a source of power. As a result of this you have the ability of taking certain items with you when you travel and still have a power supply for these items. The various batteries that you choose will provide lots of power to any types of appliance that you need. You have a choice of different batteries that you can use. Of these a nickel cadmium battery is the best.

You will find that when you are using a nickel cadmium battery that this popular battery is that of a rechargeable one. You can in general find that these batteries are also known as NiCd ? otherwise known as Ni Cad batteries ? batteries. There is however an interesting fact which is very seldom thought of. While the consumer battery is called by many of us as a NiCd battery there is yet another battery which uses this name as well.

The NiCad batteries are the abbreviated form of batteries from SAFT corporation. This company has asked that their batteries and that of the other NiCd do not become mixed up. To help prevent this mix up this company would prefer if the general nickel cadmium battery does not use the abbreviated for.

The nickel cadmium battery comes in two forms. These forms are the sealed and vented forms. The general use for a nickel cadmium battery is that of toys and electronic products like walkmans, Discmans and portable radios. There are also specialty nickel cadmium batteries which are available. These batteries are perfect for using in model airplanes, wireless phones, power tools, cordless power tools and even for camera flashes.

As you see there are many devices which can use a nickel cadmium battery. Unfortunately unlike other batteries the nickel cadmium battery is more expensive. This means that unless you are willing to pay more for this battery you may find the other battery brands to be a better buy.

Having looked into all of these details about using a nickel cadmium battery you will need to choose if you are willing to buy these batteries when you need new replacement batteries. You will find that it is possible to recharge these NiCd batteries. You will however need a good charger. By investing in such a charger to will lower the cost of batteries that you need to buy quite significantly.

When all is said and done there is nothing better than to buy a nickel cadmium battery. These are ones that will provide you with lots of energy and you can re-use them with ease. You can also buy new batteries for a low cost.

Mr.Andrew Caxton asked:

Gasoline-powered lawn mowers are loud, and emit a great deal of pollution. The solution is the electrical or battery-powered lawn mower. Battery-powered lawn mowers are good for small lawns.

Most lawn mowers are powered by gasoline. Up until recently they have been the easiest mowers to use. It was necessary only to pull the starter cord a few times, or use the electric starter, and then mow to your heart’s content. But gasoline-powered mowers are noisy and they do rather pollute the air with their emissions.

One of the knocks against the electric-powered lawnmower was that it was awkward to use. The mower must be plugged in via a long power cord, and care must be taken not to snarl or run over the power cord.

Now, you’ve got another choice – the battery-operated lawnmower. A battery-operated lawnmower will generally have enough power to allow the operator to mow both the front and back yards on one charge, unless they are extremely large.

It all depends on the battery, though. Some batteries last for thirty minutes between charges, others last up to an hour. The key thing is that they are rechargeable, so that there’s no need to bury them in a garbage dump. Although…even these batteries only last about five years or so – and then must be recycled.

There are several types of batteries: alkaline – which are not used in lawn mowers, lead acid – which are gradually being replaced by nickel cadmium, and lithium batteries – which are not only expensive but also have low storage capacity.

Nickel cadmium batteries

If you are buying a new battery operated lawn mower, make sure you get one powered by a nickel cadmium (Ni-cad) battery. They are simply better than the lead acid – they can be recycled and are environmentally friendly.

Extending battery life

As with any other type of mower, there are times when you should mow your lawn and times when you shouldn’t. You should never try to mow wet grass – it produces a tremendous strain on the battery – or engine – and doesn’t do your grass much good, either. Don’t let your grass grow such that you’re cutting off more than three inches at a time – again, bad for the engine or battery, and bad for the grass itself.

Ni-Cad batteries

Ni-Cad batteries are maintenance free. All you need to do is make sure you do not re-charge the batteries until they are completely discharged. The batteries have a ‘memory’ – if you recharge them when they don’t need to be, they will remember the energy state they were at when they were recharged, and will believe themselves to be run down the next time they reach that state – even though they have plenty of power left. (Okay, there’s a bit of anthropomorphism there, but you get the idea.)

If you’re concerned about the environment – and we all should be – the battery-operated or electrical lawn mowers should be our choice.
